Equity & Inclusion
We all deserve to be treated fairly. As state representative, I have fought for fair wages and affordable health and mental health care for all, including protecting access to abortion care and guaranteeing coverage of telemedicine by insurers. I will continue to advocate for our legislature to both acknowledge and address disparities in health care and employment among people in protected classes and underserved populations.
And in this era of division, I will continue to use my legislative capacity to ensure that Michigan is a welcoming state where individuals of any race, ethnicity, religion, ability, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression can live, work, and enjoy a fulfilling life.
I am proud of the work we have been doing in the Michigan House of Representatives since Day 1 of my first term, including passing historic legislation to protect LGBTQ+ individuals in the state and banning the heinous practice of conversion therapy on minors. We have also passed legislation that would expand the definition of hate crimes and prohibit the use of the LGBTQ+ “panic” defense. And because we expanded the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, now all Michiganders can live and work in our state without the fear of losing their jobs because of their sexuality or gender expression.
