Gun Safety

Gun violence is a fundamental threat to our way of life. This public health crisis has caused us to live alongside the specter of mass violence in our schools, our grocery stores, our churches, our movie theaters, our parks, and nearly every other place where we gather. The time for thoughtful reflection has long since passed, and I am deeply committed to addressing this crisis head-on. The common-sense gun safety legislation that we passed in 2023, including mandatory background checks, safe storage, and extreme risk protection orders, is meaningfully improving public safety, but there is much more we need to do.

With the Supreme Court of the United States seemingly committed to allowing weapons of war into the hands of bad actors, it is time for state legislatures to act. I will continue to push for solutions that will make a meaningful difference in our communities, such as an assault weapons ban and a robust embrace of community violence intervention that can interrupt the cycle of gun violence. Our kids deserve better.
