Now more than ever, Michiganders are counting on their representatives to protect the most fundamental principle that each and every person is guaranteed the ability to choose what is best for them and their own body.
Access to legal and safe abortion care is an essential element of access to affordable, quality healthcare, which all people deserve. The Supreme Court’s repeal of Roe v. Wade isn’t just about abortion–it puts the health, bodily autonomy, and personal liberty of everyone who can get pregnant at risk. We have witnessed how this radical reshaping of the relationship between the people and their government has even jeopardized the use of in vitro fertilization and surrogacy.
I take seriously my responsibility to be a strong voice in Lansing for reproductive freedom. That’s why when access to mifepristone was threatened by a federal court, I stood on the House floor to condemn the decision and to denounce any and all efforts to limit access to abortion throughout the country.
I was proud to be a sponsor of both the Reproductive Healthcare Act, which protected access to abortion, and the Assisted Reproduction and Surrogacy Parentage Act, which removed criminal prohibitions on surrogacy and ensured LGBTQ+ parents are treated equally.
